The EPT Course Start Date: Saturday 28 February – 9 May 2026 Duration: 9–10 weeks
Course Overview
This comprehensive course equips students with the foundational skills of Expository Preaching and Teaching—a biblical method that draws out, explains, and applies the original meaning of Scripture. Participants will learn to rightly divide the Word, handle the text with accuracy, and communicate its message with clarity, conviction, and contextual understanding.
Through practical instruction in hermeneutics, homiletics, sermon structure, and delivery, students will learn to expose the scriptural author’s intended meaning rather than impose personal interpretation.
What You Will Learn
Across 9–10 weeks, students will explore:
- The principles and purpose of expository preaching & teaching
- The role of hermeneutics, context, and exegesis
Course Aims
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Accurately interpret Scripture from the author’s original intent
- Prepare and deliver sound, objective, expository sermons
- Apply correct sermon structure
- Differentiate between a speech and a sermon
- Master the art and heart of preaching through hermeneutics and homiletics
Course Outcomes
Students will:
- Complete weekly assignments and practical exercises
- Construct and deliver a full expository sermon
- Engage in peer evaluation and one‑to‑one feedback
- Demonstrate understanding of sermon objectives and literary elements
- Apply definitions, illustrations, and applications to strengthen their message
Weekly Breakdown
Weeks 1–2: Introduction to expository preaching, sermon types, choosing a text, and crafting sermon titles.
Weeks 3–4: Structuring introductions; understanding contextual and historical analysis.
Weeks 5–6: Building the sermon body, main points, transitions, pericopes, and delivery skills.
Week 7: Writing conclusions and aligning them with introductions; start drafting full sermons.
Week 8: Revision, recap, and one‑to‑one guidance.
Weeks 9–10: Final sermon presentation and peer evaluation.
